Breisjøseter // toptour Storsølnkletten (1827m)

One of the most iconic summit hikes in our area to the remote double peaked mountain Storsølnkletten. Expect 850m height meters over stony terrain during this challenging hike. It starts at Breisjøseter mountain cabin which is only accessible on foot or by (e)bike via a 12km long gravel road from Atnasjø Kafe along road 27. If you are up for a long day, you can rent e-bikes at Rondane River Lodge, cycle 25km one way to Breisjøseter, do the summit hike and return again by e-bike to the lodge. A truly memorable and adventurous day!

Follow the signposting at Breisjøseter mountain cabin in eastern direction to Storsølnkletten. The entire hike is marked with red T-s and starts gently through grassy fields and low forest along the edges of a small river (which you have to cross once). Gradually you climb above tree level along the edge of Veslhøa to your right. Turn left at the next junction (signposted again) after which it gets somewhat more steep and rockier. This only gets worse the further you proceed and you might have to use your hands from time to time to scramble in between big rocks, the closer you get to the summit. There you enjoy a fantastic view towards the Rondane mountains in the west, Dovrefjell national park in the northwest and all the way into Sweden to the east. The descent, along the same route, is probably even harder than the uphill because the trail can be really slippery by times.

Very good fitness, sure-footedness and navigation skills required. The track is completely signposted with red T-s all the way to the summit but be prepared for shifting weather conditions and much colder temperatures or windy conditions on the summit. It’s not uncommon there is still snow higher up even in the middle of summer. Be prepared for stony/slippery tracks, a few wetlands and some smaller river crossings. Walking sticks are recommended and bring enough warm/waterproof clothing and drinking water with you. There is no possibility to buy supplies or find shelter indoors execept for the mountain cabins at Breisjøseter.
