This moderate hike leads to a local cabin, named Finnbua and the nearby Finnsjøen lake. Here you enjoy beautiful views on the surrounding summits, boathouses and water birds. This hike is an excellent choice also when the weather is not as good, as you are quite well sheltered by trees most of the time and can have a well-deserved break inside at the cabin. Drive from the Lodge towards Atnbrua and turn right just after the bridge over the waterfall, on Lyngstadveien. Follow this gravel road until you get to Finnstad, park your car at the side of the road and start walking on the beautiful wooden bridge crossing the Atna River again.
Walk up between the farm buildings until you get onto the next gravel road. Follow that one to the left, heading in eastern direction. Walk until the end of the drivable gravel road at the place called Sætra. There
follow the sign towards Finnsjøen straight ahead. It goes uphill and the path gets quite rocky by times. From there you will follow blue markers hanging in the trees. Keep following the track all the way until you get to a few wooden buildings. Here you turn right and shortly afterwards you will see a sign to Finnbua (0.1km) to your left. This red painted cabin is unlocked and is free to use for everyone. You can even heat the stove inside. After the break, return to the main trail and turn left towards Finnsjøen. Cross a few boardwalks and keep following the same direction at the next sign until you actually reach the lake and the boathouses. You can actually use the fishing boat from Sollia Fjellstyre if you rent the key at Rondane River Lodge and take it with you. Follow the northern shore of the lake by turning right and keep on following the blue markers in the trees. Now there are 2 options. Option one is to follow the lakeshore the whole way to its end before turning right. This is the winter route and the soil can get swampy. The second option, a dryer one but harder to find, is to get back into the trees about mid-way along the lake (gps track). Keep following that path all the way down to the gravel road next to the Atna river. Turn right onto this road until you get back to the bridge over the river where you started the hike.

Good fitness and some navigation skills required. The track is mostly clearly visible and marked with blue markers in the trees. But is a bit harder to find when you choose the ‘dryer’ option on the way down. Most of time you are hiking on gravel roads, but be prepared for some swampy parts especially when you continue to the end of the lake and want to take the winter route down.
