A family friendly hike to to summit of Søre Vola with an extension to the west to some beautiful small lakes and a nice wooden shelter where you can make a fire and try some fishing. Park opposite Rondetunet and follow the signposting to Søre Vola. During the first uphill section through the beautiful pine forest, you follow the red T-s. Above tree level you turn right and walk almost straight to the summit along a clearly visible track. On the top you can enjoy the spectacular view over Atnsjø Lake and the entire eastside of Rondane National Park. A big cairn offers some shelter on windy days. Same way back down but turn right after about 700m towards Hamnsætra. Pass this charming old mountain farm and go straight on until you reach the first small lake. Walk southwards along its eastern shore until you reach another junction. Follow straight on towards Ljørbua along the shore of another small lake. You will now see the wooden shelter on the other side of the lake and can reach it over a narrow footbridge. Inside the shelter there is a nice fireplace to grill sausages (bring some wood as it’s not always there). Return the same way but go right this time at the junction towards Rondetunet. From the next junction the path is signposted with red T-s all the way back to the car park.
Quite easy hike but still going uphill for quite some time. Part of the track is not signposted. Be prepared for stony/slippery tracks especially closer the top.
