Straumbu // Ronden valley – Straumburunden

Easy hike at the edge of Rondane national park mainly staying in the valley and therefore quite accessible for everyone. Start at the parking area near Straumbu viewpoint, follow the sandy shore of the Atna river north and cross the suspension bridge to get to the other side. Go straight on towards Høgronden and follow the winding path which crosses 2 bridged rivers. The path gets more stony for a short while and after 1.5km in total, you leave the main DNT-track (signposted with red T-s) to the right. You will go through dense forest, pass a private cabin and a small lake to the left before touching the shore of the Atna river. Continue with forest and the hillside to your left and wetlands to your right until you get to a farm. Here it might get a bit swampy especially after rain. Stay right of the farm, turn left around it and follow the gravel road next to Atna river until you get to the bridge. Cross the bridge to get to a parking lot and go on to the main road. Walk slightly left to the other side and continue the path behind the barrier which is signposted ‘Straumburunden’. Go upphill on a sandy path and follow the signpostings until you get to a forest road. Turn right here and follow this road all the way until you get to the entrance of another farm. Turn left around it and right downwards at the next intersection. Follow the clearly visible path through the forest and turn right once more to descend to the main road and the parking place at Straumbu.

Easy hike suitable for almost everyone and signposted here and there with ‘Straumburunden’. Mainly gravel roads and paths except for the occasional wetland you have to cross just before the first farm (especially after rain). All river crossings are bridged.
