Day 2: canoeing on Atna-river

Drive to your first adventure while enjoying the dramatic scenery along Rondaneveien, one of the 18 national scenic routes in Norway. Then it’s time to set off for a 2-3 hours canoe trip on the Atna River which you follow downstreams. Relax and admire the wonderful views on the mountains and make a stop at one of the many sandy beaches you pass. On request it’s also possible to do a full day canoe trip (5-6 hours) or even a 2-days canoe trip with overnight in a tent. Prices on request.

Day 3: goat farm visit and self-guided hike to Pika

Early morning transfer to Øverdalssætra where you will meet the goats at a traditional seter (mountain farm). You are free to help during the miking process and enjoy a typical Norwegian breakfast at the farm. Start climbing Mount Pika afterwards (250 height meters) with a 360° view over the surrounding mountains and Rondane National Park. Count about 2 to 3 hours to reach Rondane River Lodge again where freshly baked waffles are waiting for you. On request the hike can also be guided.

Day 4: musk ox safari in Dovrefjell national park

The iconic musk ox has its natural habitat in Dovrefjell National Park which is easily accessible from Hjerkinn, about a one hour drive from Rondane River Lodge. You can search for musk ox on your own but can increase your chances significantly when being accommpanied by a knowledgeable guide during a 5-6 hours hike. There are good opportunities to spot also grouse, plover and maybe even a flock of wild reindeer.

Day 5: guided fishing introduction and evening moose safari

The rivers and lakes surrounding Rondane River Lodge are bursting of trout and arctic char. Get the basics of fishing on a nice spot with help of a knowledgeable guide during our 2-3 hours fishing introduction. In the evening you can join our guided moose safari. We start around sunset and drive 3 to 4 hours to the best spots in the surroundings of Rondane River Lodge where the king of the forest is regularly present. Unfortunately we can’t guarantee any sightings but it will be a memorable experience anyway. Did you know Rondane River Lodge is situated in one of the most densely populated areas of wild moose and spring time (May-June) offers the best chances for success?

Day 6: white water rafting on Sjoa-river

World class white water rafting is waiting for you in Sjoa Valley about a one hour drive from Rondane River Lodge. Sit tight, paddle hard and get the adrenaline rush of your lifetime. Trips of different level and duration are possible as well for families that want to bring their youngest.

Day 7: the choice is yours

Today the choice is all yours. We can recommend many self-guided hikes for all levels but what about our cycling trip to Mini-Alaska which starts straight at the lodge? You can rent comfortable e-mountainbikes and cycle the 45km loop (half on paved and half on gravel roads) on your own or it can be guided with several interesting stops focusing on local culture. Or maybe horse riding on the rolling Venabygdsfjellet-plateau sounds more tempting?

Day 8: departure

Time to say goodbye to the Norwegian Mountains. Maybe you can still visit the stavechurch in Ringebu and Lillehammer, hometown for the Olympic Winter Games in 1994, on the way back home? Or visit the charming UNESCO mining-town Røros if you rather fancy travelling further op north?
