The view on the top of Knappen (1103m) is the highlight of this hike and definitely one of the nicest in the area. You park next to Skogli campsite and turn right into the gravel road going up in between the small lake and just before the last house. Follow this road until the end of a grass field to your right. Turn right at the intersection and follow the old forest road winding upwards through dense forest. When you are about to reach the tree level, you get to the main trail to Knappen, which you follow to the right when going down. But to reach the summit you first turn left for another kilometer. You will cross a small valley, walk shortly back within the trees and finally reach the rocky summit. Now you get to see the marvellous view over Atnsjø-lake and Rondane National Park in northwestern direction. Descend the same way until you get back to the intersection. Go straight this time towards Rondetunet. Walk first through forest, before getting to another open space before turning right and following the path downwards through the forest again. You pass the first powerline and cross the small wooden bridge over a small waterfall, just shortly afterwards. After passing the second powerline, you will soon reach Rondetunet. Go in between the main buidlings towards the road and turn right on the path after having crossed the river. You will get to the road after about 250m after a short but steep climb. Follow the road in northern direction for about 100m and turn right again on the forest road to Skogli. It will quickly change into a path on your right steeply descending into the river valley again. Follow the path next to the river to get back to Skogli.
Quite good fitness and navigation skills required. The track is mostly clearly visible but only sparsely signposted. Be prepared for stony/slippery tracks, a few wetlands and some smaller river crossings.
