    The iconic musk ox has its natural habitat in Dovrefjell National Park which is easily accessible from Hjerkinn, about a one hour drive from Rondane River Lodge. You can search for musk ox on your own but can increase your chances significantly when being accommpanied by a knowledgeable guide from Oppdal Safari. There are good opportunities to spot also grouse, arctic fox and maybe even a flock of wild reindeer.

     

    Privately guided 5-6 hours musk ox safari:

    Daily from 11/12 until 23/12 and from 02/01 until 30/04 in the morning (starting between 8 and 10 AM) when there is enough snow for skiing or snowshoeing.

    5200 NOK per group up to 10 persons

    Transfer to the starting point in Hjerkinn can be added for 1200 NOK one way.

     

    The excursion requires a good physical condition and is suitable for children as from 10-12 years old. Food and warm/water repellent clothing should be brought. A warm drink and small bite along the way is included. Snowshoes or ski’s (with skins) can be rented for an additional charge. Transport by dogsled can be organized upon request.

     

    2 days guided musk ox safari with overnight in tent:

    This excursion is specifically oriented towards photographers in order to capture the musk ox in different light settings. With favorable weather conditions, you might even catch a glimpse of the northern lights.

     

    Daily from 04/01 until 30/04 upon request when there is enough snow for skiing or snowshoeing.
