Come for a midweek or long weekend to enjoy the peace and quiet of Rondane National Park. Stay 3 or 4 nights in a cosy hotel room or comfortable log cabin at Rondane River Lodge and join some exciting activities such as dogsledding and a backcountry skiing introduction. Warm up again in our wood-fired sauna and hot-tub after returning from your day adventure and savour delicious home-made meals in the restaurant.
Day 1:
The hosts welcome you at Rondane River Lodge and inform you about the program. For sure you will be charmed instantly by the cosy lodge and the snowy forest around. Relax in your comfortable hotel room or log cabin and enjoy a home-made 3 courses welcome dinner in the restaurant.
Day 2:
After a tasty breakfast you will meet the backcountry skiing guide. He handpicks the perfect location for an exciting introduction taking into account your abilities and the weather conditions. The untouched wilderness around Rondane River Lodge is just perfect to be discovered with slightly wider skis which are surprisingly easy to control. The focus is on moving through the deep snow with some up- and downhill sections on the way. So get yourself acquainted with the technique and don’t be limited to stay on groomed trails only. For sure you will feel the ultimate sense of freedom!
On request the backcountry skiing introduction can be extended with an avalanche course. Always dreamed about exploring the powder outside the slopes but need some more confidence? Get yourself familiar with beacon, probe and shovel during and don’t be limited any longer.
Day 3:
Take the chance to participate to a once-in-a-lifetime adventure and sign up for a dogsled safari. Upon arrival at the dogyard, you will be welcomed energetically by your furry friends. After some basic instructions on how to handle the sled(dogs), you set-off for a tour through snow covered forests and into the mountains. This is an experience not to be missed.
Day 4 (optional):
Today the choice is all yours. Try snowshoeing, cross-country skiing or try icefishing on the nearby lake. Maybe you encounter wild moose or reindeer during your trip or join a guided musk ox safari in Dovrefjell National Park. Those who like kan also sign up for an idyllic horse sleigh ride with panoramic views over the mountains. Winter sports enthousiasts can reach Kvitfjell in just one hour. It’s home to the longest alpine skiing slope in Norway which was used during the 1994 Lillehammer Olympic Winter Games.
Day 4 or 5:
Time to say goodbye to the Norwegian mountains.

We can arrange transfers to the train station in Atna and to the various activities. Or you can arrange your own transport (private or rental car). Make sure you have winter tires and bring snow chains if possible as the roads can be icy.
The activities included can be adapted to most ages but we recommend minimum 6 years old for the backcountry skiing. It’s possible to rent winter dresses from us. Please inform us about the required sizes in advance.
This program can be offered on request throughout the winter season for a minimum of 1 person.
When you book this package during Christmas and New Year you can sign up for our festive 5 courses dinner on Christmas or New Year’s eve. Weather allowing there will be celebrated also outside around the open fire with gløgg (Norwegian glühwein) and you can bake your own bread. Children are welcome to join a short torch hike around the lodge.
