  • AUTUMN SHORTBREAK

September is without doubt the best time to enjoy the fantastic colors while hiking in the mountains or picking berries and mushrooms in the forest. This package includes 4 nights in a cosy log cabin or hotel room at Rondane River Lodge, a welcome dinner, daily breakfast and a guided hike with Benjamin, owner of the Rondane River Lodge. Not to forget plenty of fresh Norwegian air.

    Day 1:

The hosts welcome you at Rondane River Lodge and inform you about the countless hiking and activity options during the next days. Relax in your comfortable hotel room or log cabin and enjoy a home-made 3 courses welcome dinner in the restaurant.

    Day 2:

Prepare your own lunch package from the tasty breakfast buffet. Short transfer to Øverdalssætra, the starting point for the guided hike to the top of Mount Pika (1.157m). The trail winds first gently between swamps and pristine birch forests. The colors are breathtaking and you are surrounded by wild berries and mushrooms on all sides. The landscape becomes more barren once you reach the tree level. With nice weather you enjoy wonderful views from the top over Rondane National Park and the woods all the way into Sweden. After lunch it’s time to descent on the other side of the mountain. Cross the elongated stone fields before the trail winds down again through the spruce forest. Count about 3 to 4 hours hiking to complete this extremely varied hike of moderate difficulty. Freshly baked Norwegian or Belgian waffles will be waiting for you at Rondane River Lodge to regain strength.

    Days 3 & 4:

Rondane River Lodge is an excellent venture point for many famous hikes in the Rondane National Park. The neighbouring Dovrefjell National Park is also well worth a visit and the last area where wild musk ox can be observed in mainland Europe. Sign up for a guided safari or drive one of the scenic mountain roads dotted with numerous viewpoints. Adventure enthousiasts can also sign up for canoeing, white water rafting or horse riding. The choice is all yours!

    Day 5:

Last breakfast and time to say goodbye. If you drive in the direction of Oslo you will enjoy the fantastic scenery along Venabygdfjellet. Undertake the short but steep climb of Mount Muen and don’t forget to stop at the famous stavechurch in Ringebu.
