  • RONDANE WILDLIFE SHORTBREAK

Come for a midweek or long weekend to enjoy the peace and quiet of Rondane National Park. Stay 4 nights in a cosy hotel room at Rondane River Lodge and spot the local wildlife during some exciting activities. Not to forget the delicious taste of freshly made meals by the lady of the house.

    Day 1:

The hosts welcome you at Rondane River Lodge and inform you about the program for the next days. Check-in at your cosy hotel room and enjoy a home-made 3 courses welcome dinner in the restaurant.

    Day 2:

After a tasty breakfast you drive to your first adventure while enjoying the dramatic scenery along Rondaneveien, one of the 18 national scenic routes in Norway. Don’t forget to stop at Sohlbergplassen with it’s famous view over Rondane National Park. Then you drive to Strømbu for a canoe trip on the Atna River. You are transported to the starting point in Eiriksrud (150 NOK per car to be paid on spot) and paddle Atna river downstreams back to Strømbu. Relax and admire the wonderful views on the mountains and make a stop at one of the many sandy beaches. When being silent you might also spot beavers while padling.

    Day 3:

Early transfer to Øverdalssætra where you will meet the goats at a traditional seter (mountain farm). You are free to help during the milking process and can taste freshly made goatcheese during a typical Norwegian breakfast at the farm. Start climbing Mount Pika afterwards (1.157m) with a 360° view over the surrounding mountains and Rondane National Park. Count about 3 to 4 hours to complete this self-guided hike before descending to Rondane River Lodge again. For a surcharge of 2500 NOK the hike can also be guided.

Are you keen on meeting the king of the forest? Increase your chances and join our twilight moose safari. We start around sunset and drive to the best spots in the surroundings of Rondane River Lodge where moose is regularly present. Unfortunately we can’t guarantee any sightings but it will be a memorable experience anyway. Did you know Rondane River Lodge is situated in one of the most densely populated areas of wild moose and spring time (May-June) offers the best chances for success?

    Day 4:

The iconic musk ox has its natural habitat in Dovrefjell National Park which is easily accessible from Hjerkinn, about a one hour drive from Rondane River Lodge. You can search for musk ox on your own but can increase your chances significantly when being accompanied by a knowledgeable guide. There are good opportunities to spot also grouse, plover and maybe even a flock of wild reindeer.
