  • RONDANE WILDLIFE SHORTBREAK

Come for a midweek or long weekend to enjoy the peace and quiet of Rondane National Park. Stay 3 or 4 nights in a cosy hotel room or comfortable log cabin at Rondane River Lodge and spot the local wildlife during some exciting activities. Not to forget the delicious taste of freshly made meals by the lady of the house.

    Day 1:

The hosts welcome you at Rondane River Lodge and inform you about the program for the next days. Check-in in your comfortable hotel log cabin and enjoy a home-made 3 courses welcome dinner in the restaurant.

    Day 2:

After a tasty breakfast you drive to your first adventure while enjoying the dramatic scenery along Rondaneveien, one of the 18 national scenic routes in Norway. Then it’s time to set off for half or full day canoe trip on the Atna River which you follow downstreams. Relax and admire the wonderful views on the mountains and make a stop at one of the sandy beaches you pass. When being silent you might also spot beavers while padling.

    Day 3:

Early transfer to Øverdalssætra where you will meet the goats at a traditional seter (mountain farm). You are free to help during the milking process and can taste freshly made goatcheese during a typical Norwegian breakfast at the farm. Start climbing Mount Pika afterwards (1157m) with a 360° view over the surrounding mountains and Rondane National Park. Count about 3 to 4 hours to complete the hike before descending to Rondane River Lodge again. On request the hike can also be guided.

Are you keen on meeting the king of the forest? Increase your chances and sign up for our twilight moose safari. We start around sunset and drive with an old army jeep to the best spots in the surroundings of Rondane River Lodge where moose is regularly present. Unfortunately we can’t guarantee any sightings but it will be a memorable experience anyway. Did you know Rondane River Lodge is situated in one of the most densely populated areas of wild moose and spring time offers the best chances for success?

    Day 4:

The iconic musk ox has its natural habitat in Dovrefjell National Park which is easily accessible from Hjerkinn, about a one hour drive from Rondane River Lodge. You can search for musk ox on your own but can increase your chances significantly when being accompanied by a knowledgeable guide. There are good opportunities to spot also grouse, plover and maybe even a flock of wild reindeer.

Time to say goodbye to the Norwegian Mountains.
