Enjoy the peace and quiet of Rondane and Dovrefjell National Park during a variety of family friendly activities. You stay in a cosy log cabin at Rondane River Lodge with possibility to taste delicious home-made meals by the lady of the house.

    Day 1:

The hosts welcome you at Rondane River Lodge and inform you about the program for the next days. Check-in in your comfortable hotel log cabin and enjoy a home-made 3 courses welcome dinner in the restaurant.

    Day 2:

After a tasty breakfast you drive to your first adventure while enjoying the dramatic scenery along Rondaneveien, one of the 18 national scenic routes in Norway. Then it’s time to set off for half or full day canoe trip on the Atna River which you follow downstreams. Relax and admire the wonderful views on the mountains and make a stop at one of the sandy beaches you pass. On request it’s also possible to do a 2-days canoe trip with overnight in a tent. Prices on request.

    Day 3:

Early transfer to Øverdalssætra where you will meet the goats at a traditional seter (mountain farm). You are free to help during the miking process and can taste freshly made goatcheese during a typical Norwegian breakfast at the farm. Start climbing Mount Pika afterwards (1157m) with a 360° view over the surrounding mountains and Rondane National Park. Count about 3 to 4 hours to complete the hike before descending to Rondane River Lodge again. On request the hike can also be guided.

    Day 4:

The iconic musk ox has its natural habitat in Dovrefjell National Park which is easily accessible from Hjerkinn, about a one hour drive from Rondane River Lodge. You can search for musk ox on your own but can increase your chances significantly when being accommpanied by a knowledgeable guide. There are good opportunities to spot also grouse, plover and maybe even a flock of wild reindeer.

    Day 5:

Learn the different techniques of sweet water fishing during a full day introduction. Fishing equipment can be rented seperately.

Are you keen on meeting the king of the forest? Increase your chances and sign up for our twilight moose safari. We start around sunset and drive with an old army jeep to the best spots in the surroundings of Rondane River Lodge where moose is regularly present. Unfortunately we can’t guarantee any sightings but it will be a memorable experience anyway. Did you know Rondane River Lodge is situated in one of the most densely populated areas of wild moose and spring time offers the best chances for success?

    Day 6:

With a packraft lakes and rivers are no longer a hindrance or something to go around, but rather something to explore and use as a new way of transportation. The packraft is very stable and easy to learn to paddle, so no paddling experience is required. We offer both a half or full day packrafting introduction. The guides will teach you all the basics and bring you out paddling easy whitewater in places you normally wouldn’t reach by yourself.

    Day 7:

Today the choice is all yours. We can recommend hikes for all abilities but you can also go cycling, horse riding or white water rafting in Sjoa Valley. Or what about another scenic drive on gravel roads across the national park or visit the UNESCO World Heritage mining town Røros and lake Femund near the Swedish border. Also worth visiting are the stavechurch in Ringebu and Lillehammer, hometown for the Olympic Winter Games in 1994.
